Ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial and state assembly elections, the Plateau State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has raised alarm over a smear campaign against him.
He said the campaign was orchestrated by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) as well as Governor Simon Lalong of the state.
The PDP candidate, who spoke at a press conference in his campaign office in Jos, the Plateau State capital, said the recent performance of the PDP at the National Assembly elections, which were held alongside the presidential election, is an eloquent testament that the PDP is still the dominant party in the state and the party to beat in the election.
Hence, he said, the APC has become jittery and is orchestrating an untrue and mischievous campaign against him, including a purported plan to dislodge some Jos North residents should he emerge governor, the dethronement of some chiefs and dissolution of chiefdoms, among others.
Responding, the state publicity secretary of the APC, Hon Sylvanus Namang, said Muftang is guilty of all that he is trying to clear himself of, and that they have it on good authority.
He said the state has made progress over the years under Governor Lalong and the APC administration after the dark days of the Plateau crises, but that going by the outlook of the PDP now, it intends to set aside most of the policies.
