PDP group urges Plateau governor to include Muslims in security committee

The PDP Concerned Muslims in Plateau on Thursday, chided the state government over what it described as lopsidedness in constituting the members of the security committee by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, urging him to consider Muslims in security committee for sake of fairness.

On Wednesday, the governor constituted a security committee tasked with responsibilities of finding lasting solutions to bedeviling crisis in the state.

But the Muslims in the PDP, however, expressed their dismay over the membership of the committee, stating that no Muslim in the state had made list.

In a statement signed by its zonal chairmen, Musa Abdullahi Ladan (Plateau South), Ustaz Ibrahim Bishtu (Plateau Central) and Abdulaziz Hassan Waziri (Plateau North), the group, while commiserating with the state over the recent crisis in Mangu, said, “Never in history of Plateau State that principal officers of the House of Assembly was constituted without a Muslim serving in at least one among the portfolios/principal officers.

“The recent list of a Security Committee came to us as a surprise despite the fragile peace in the entire state. The PDP Concerned Muslims has also noted that all appointments in Mangu LGA are Christians despite the efforts and contribution of Muslims towards the success of PDP in Plateau State and this is also the handiwork of these individuals, especially the Chief of staff who prior to his appointment was the Central zone chairman of PDP.

“We reject the latest press statement by the SSG that the 10 man all Christians list will select the Muslims that will be part of the confab because it is an afterthought, face-saving, disrespectful to the sensibilities of the Muslim Ummah, especially those that worked hard for the success of our great party PDP in Plateau State,” the statement added.

They however called on the governor to as a matter of urgency do the needful to ensure that Muslims were included, adding stating that Muslims should always be carried alone.
