PDP denies involvement in appeal against suit to stop Fubara’s impeachment

The national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denied any involvement in the appeal seeking to overturn an order halting the impeachment process against Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

The PDP’s National Working Committee clarified that the party is not a party to the appeal against the Rivers State High Court’s order, which restrains the Chief Judge and Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly from acting on resolutions from the Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the state assembly.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, stated, “The PDP National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), has confirmed that the party did not file the appeal nor authorize any external solicitor to do so. Therefore, the PDP cannot be listed as an appellant in the appeal.”

The PDP emphasised that only the National Legal Adviser has the exclusive responsibility to handle litigation, prosecution, and defence of cases on behalf of the party, as specified in Section 42 of the PDP’s Constitution (amended in 2017).

This development follows the Amaewhule-led faction’s initiation of impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, which was halted by a court order obtained by the state attorney general.
