PDP demands DSS Director’s redeployment over Ogun riot

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has called for the redeployment of the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Femi Aaron over the naira scarcity riot which rocked Sagamu on Monday.
During the chaos, commercial banks’ branches and the Local Government secretariat were destroyed in the attacks.
The opposition party and the state government had traded blame over the riot.
But on Thursday, the PDP in a fresh allegation claimed that Governor Dapo Abiodun has been harassing the candidates of the party with DSS in connection with the mayhem.

The Party further alleged that instead of shifting blame, it was Governor Abiodun who incited the public against the banks.
The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Party, Adekunle Akinlade, who said this at a press conference in Abeokuta, said the Party is worried about the fairness of the DSS Director.
Akinlade alleged that the DSS broke into the house of five candidates and supporters without former invitation or any warrant.
He said “It is sad if Gov. Dapo Abiodun now descends to using security agencies to harass PDP candidates and hunt innocent citizens.
“This is also a warning to all security agencies particularly the DSS not to allow themselves to be used for political gains. They are to protect all citizens and not to be used by any governor or politician to suppress others.
“As a party that is peace-loving, we are worried about the fairness of the Ogun State Director of the DSS, Mr Femi Aaron, fsi, in the forthcoming elections, inasmuch as we are not comfortable and confident of his neutrality, we, therefore, wish to call for the redeployment of the state Director of DSS, Mr Femi Aaron, for a free and fair election in Ogun State,” Akinlade said.
Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin denied harassing opponents with the security operatives.
“Clear conscience fears no accusations.  No one with clean hands should feel harassed or intimidated. Let anyone invited, who has nothing to hide, no skeleton in their cupboard, go and clear their names.  Justice, fairness, and public order are at stake.  Politicising them will do neither the incumbent administration nor opposition any good,” Somorin said.
