The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel results of the Bayelsa and Kogi states governorship elections citing massive irregularities.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus also demanded outright cancellation of Kogi West senatorial election, describing it as the biggest fraud ever.

He said a wave of terror was threatening Nigeria’s democracy, constitutional order, national cohesion and safety of citizens, under the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government, adding that if not checked, the 2023 general elections would be threatened.

PDP claimed that it had the details of roles played by the police high command, INEC officials as well as other security agencies in the elections, adding that those details would be made public at the appropriate forum and time.

The party said the alleged invasion of polling units, killings and alteration of results were part of the premeditated power-grabbing designs of the APC.

Secondus further called on the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), Commonwealth of Nations, African Union (AU) and ECOWAS to impose sanctions, including travel ban, on INEC officials and the police high command for allegedly aiding or allowing acts that led to electoral fraud and violence in the elections.

“The PDP states without equivocation that invasion of polling units and killing of voters to manipulate electoral results cannot be allowed in our democratic space.

“If the APC’s political brigandage that happened in Kogi and Bayelsa states is allowed to stand, such would be extended to other elections including the 2023 general elections and that would be a death knell to our democracy,” he said.
