A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has said that the demands of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State are not personal.

Fayose, however, said he would support the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 general elections.

The former governor stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

He said that part of the demands of Wike and some of the governors who are supporting him is that Atiku should go for only one tenure if elected president.

He said, “Part of the demands of Wike and co is not personal. This is not for public domain, but I have to bring it. And any person who says I am telling lies can come and deny it. I told the 16 delegates from Ekiti to vote for Wike.

“If they give me one vote because of my name and Wike loses by one vote I will have betrayed trust. When I went to Wike and some of the governors that are supporting him, part of their demands is that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is 76 and that Atiku should do only one term. We can tell our people only one tenure, we can still tolerate it. So that it will not be eight years of the north and another eight years for the north.”

However, when asked whether he is supporting Atiku, he said, “It implies if somebody is the candidate of your party and my son is contesting. I will remain with the PDP in my state. I will root for PDP. And today, Atiku Abubakar is the leader of the party by his position as the candidate of the party.”
