The women said they were concerned about the security and political situations in the country as they feared that women and children would bear the brunt of the crisis if not swiftly nipped in the bud.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the prayer held at the FSP centre, Fate road, Ilorin, the senior special assistant to the Kwara State governor on poverty alleviation, Hajia Sarah Adebayo said the prayer was necessary in view of the political crisis rocking the country.
Kwara belongs to the Kawu Baraje-led New Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor’s aide explained that the current political and security situation in the country deserves special prayers for peace to reign in the country.
The SSA said the prayer would be a continuous process, adding, “even in time of peace, the importance of prayer cannot be over-emphasized, not to talk of period like this when the nation is troubled.”
She added that women in the state are in support of the political leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki and the administration of Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed.
Adebayo praised Saraki and Governor Ahmed for giving priority attention to the welfare of women in the state, saying, “Kwara women will always swim along with the two leaders”.
