As part of efforts to resolve the lingering crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Board of Trustee (BoT) met with the Vice Presidential candidate of the party, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, in Abuja, on Saturday.

The meeting, which took place at the Delta Governors’ lodge in Abuja, Daily Trust gathered was part of the ongoing consultation by the Senator Adolphus Wabara-led BoT to bring the crisis to an end.

Speaking after the meeting, Okowa and Wabara said the crisis will soon be over. They expressed confidence that all stakeholders would work for the success of the party in 2023.

Okowa, who described the closed door meeting as largely fruitful, said that the party leaders, including governors, were interacting to resolve the crisis.

He also noted that the visit of the Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to the South East and South West was a huge success and the move by the BoT will end any remaining disagreement in the party.

The Delta Governor said Nigeria needs a detribalised man with the right experience to address the present challenges and keep Nigeria together.

On his part, Wabara said the BoT special reconciliation committee visited Okowa to proffer solutions to the issues at stake, saying “In the coming days, we will also meet with the the Presidential candidate, former Vice President and from there we will proceed to meet with Governor Wike.

Meanwhile, Senator Dino Melaye, Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign Management Committee, also said discussion about the 2027 elections did not take place between Atiku and Wike.

He said, “No such discussion between Atiku Abubakar and Governor Wike of Rivers State. At no time did Atiku Abubakar discuss such with Governor Wike. Atiku never promised or discuss 2027 with Governor Wike or anyone for that matter.”
