The Niger Delta Youth Rescue Movement has called on Dr Iyorcha Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resign.
Addressing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, leader of the movement, Sophia Kevwe Nosiama, said Ayu had become a stumbling block to the success of the party.

He said if Ayu’s dispute with Governor Nyesom Wike is not settled as soon as possible, it might cost the party the presidency in the forthcoming election.
According to Sophia, the meeting had in attendance PDP rescue coordinators from the Niger Delta Region and discussions on the State of the zone and Nigeria at large held.
The movement, which declared their support for the camp of the Rivers state Governor, also insisted that Ayu has become the clog in the wheel of progress of the party, saying that he (Ayu) should be held responsible if the party loses the election.
The movement also disclosed that as active supporters, they have no intention whatsoever to leave the opposition party, but, noted that “it would be unfair and unjust for the North to hold unto the presidential ticket and the chairmanship of the party at the same time.
“PDP is not a Northern Peoples Democratic Party nor Southern Peoples Democratic Party. We have to be just and united, to enable us win at various levels in the coming 2023 general elections.”
“It will be better for us to lose Ayu as the PDP Chairman and clinch the President seat, than to have him and lose the presidency.”
