PDP crisis: Atiku sends new emissaries to Wike

The Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has rescheduled his campaigns to enable new emissaries sent to the embattled Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, to intervene in the lingering crisis in the party.

The camp of Wike, comprising five governors and other influential members of the party, had shunned the campaign council over the refusal of the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign.

In the campaign timetable that had been in the public domain, Atiku and the campaign train were supposed to be in Kebbi State yesterday (Wednesday) and Zamfara today (Thursday). But the campaign for the two states has been rescheduled as the party intensifies efforts to lure Wike’s camp to key into the Atiku project.

It was gathered that the reschedule was to give time to some respected party elders—comprising of a former Senate president, a former governor of Rivers, former governor of Delta State, among others—who have been tasked with the job of bringing back Wike and his group.

However, Daily Trust understands that the presidential candidate had a crucial meeting with the top party stakeholders in Abuja on Wednesday where issues concerning the crisis were discussed and the way forward.

Reacting, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, and a spokesman for the campaign, said it was “rescheduled”.

Aniagwu also said the campaign activities would resume in Kaduna on Monday.
