PDP convention: Vote according to ‘unity list’, power brokers tell delegates

Power brokers in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have directed delegates at the on-going national convention of the party to vote according to the ‘unity list’ drafted prior to the convention.

Sources at the PDP national secretariat confided in our correspondent that the party had drafted a unity list containing names and positions of those who will win at the convention and form the next crop of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Though consensus arrangements have been reached on most of the key positions of the NWC, it was hinted that some positions were left out, hence the need for a unity list which would define the voting pattern of delegates tonight.

Recall that a unity list had emerged at the 2017 national convention of the party which produced the Prince Uche Secondus-led NWC.

While our correspondent was yet to have access to the list, an insider said, “the previous convention came with a unity list and this one too, is coming with a unity list.”

He added, “There were some hiccups here and there about micro-zoning, but the governors had put their heads together to ensure that all issues are resolved. And that led to the emergence of a unity list.

“So delegates have been directed to vote in line with the unity list, so that the convention will be rancour-free.

“The National Convention Organising Committee led by Governor Umaru Fintiri, is equally working hard to ensure that the convention is credible and fair to all,” he said.

When contacted, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Prince Diran Odeyemi, confirmed that there was a unity list and promised to send to our reporter later.
