PDP, APC ‘clash’ over defections, election victories

The leading opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have ‘clashed’ over defections and the results of the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections.

PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus alleged during the inauguration of the party’s National Reconciliation and Strategy Committee on Wednesday in Abuja, that the APC used the instrumentality of lies and propaganda to win the two general elections.

“We are aware that APC is a political party of lies and propaganda. They fooled Nigerians in 2015 and 2019 but they can’t continue to fool the people all the time.

“Therefore, one with God is the majority. We believe that God is showing us the pathway. We will lead this country into victory for all the people.

“And as you are aware, the country is falling apart. Nigeria requires the leadership qualities domiciled in our party to show the pathway for the next general elections in 2023,” he said.

But reacting in a telephone chat with our correspondent, APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Yekini Nabena said Secondus made a false claim about the 2015 and 2019 general elections.

“It’s a false claim. We are the progressives. The PDP lacks the moral right to say such a thing against the APC. It is the PDP that has started using lies and propaganda to win the 2023 elections.

“Secondus and his party, the PDP, are not qualified to say anything about national interest. So let them focus on resolving the crisis in their fold.

“They want to reclaim power so that they will owe federal government workers’ salaries. They are already owing their staff salaries. But their strategy will not work in 2023,” he said.
