The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has lamented the decision of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to spend over N500million on the beautification of the Kofar Ruwa underpass bridge named after the late Galadiman Kano, Alh. Tijjani Hashim.
A statement signed by the state chairman, Shehu Wada Sagagi, said the amount approved was a clear misappropriation of public funds.

It noted that the implementation of the project started a few weeks before the council approval and was not part of either the 2021 or 2022 fiscal year.
“This is an impeachable offence, which should call for a serious concern of oversight function assuming Kano has a formidable state legislative arm.
“We called on the members of civil society, the anti-graft agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate this shoddy deal in the interest of accountability and good governance.”
The statement added, “It is evidently clear that the governor is on a spending spree mood to further cripple Kano state economy before the expiration of his second tenure to make Kano absolutely bankrupt.
“As opposition party and good citizens of Kano state, we vehemently condemned this act and call on the Kano state House of Assembly, civil society and all stakeholders to resist this project as same is a misplacement of priority looking at the economic situation of Kano state.”
