PDM national chairman Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim said in Abuja yesterday during a visit to the Buhari Support Organization office that the decision to adopt Buhari was taken at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party on January 22.
He said the party has, after careful consideration and looking at the interest and the situation of the country, decided to support a candidate that would offer more to the country and face the current challenges.
“As you are aware, our party does not have a presidential candidate, but we have candidates that are contesting for other posts. So, in the presidential election, we are going to support the APC candidate for his qualities and plans for the country,” he said.
He said PDM as a strong movement that transformed into a political party has always been a progressive movement that has the country at heart and wants to take it to the path of development.
He reiterated that their resolve to support Buhari is for the good of the country as the APC presidential candidate has more positive contributions to give to the country at this time.
Receiving the PDM delegation, Buhari expressed happiness about the decision of the party to support him at the polls, which, he said, would help him win the election.
He commended the PDM team for taking what he described as a wise decision, which would help the nation’s democracy, urging them to ensure that their members and those of all other political parties in the country shun violence before, during and after the elections.
