PCNI, May and Baker Conduct Deworming Campaign

As part of its corporate social responsibility mission, the pharmaceutical and healthcare giant, May and Baker, is currently conducting a deworming exercise in the North East under the auspices of PCNI. The exercise is also in response to gaps in the health and nutrition sector of interventions identified by PCNI. The team from May and Baker arrived Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, at 11am on Monday 14th August 2017 and was received by the PCNI’s Yobe State team. Subsequently, it conducted the exercise in two locations (Pompomari
IDP camp and Kukareta). The deworming exercise targeted 200 children under the age of five at the Pompomari IDP camp in Damaturu. Apart from the deworming capsules which were administered by a pharmacist from the M&B team and two health workers from the Yobe state ministry of health, hand sanitizers and buckets were also donated to the camp.
The team also performed a demonstration of how to use the hand sanitizers. Thereafter, the team moved to Kukareta, which is a resettled community on the outskirts of Damaturu. About 50 under-5 children were administered with the deworming capsules on the spot while 150 doses of the capsules and 3 cartons of hand sanitizers were donated to the community clinic. The exercise was commended by officials of the state Ministry of Health and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who urged PCNI to continue such positively beneficial outreaches. The team left for Maiduguri later that day in continuation of a circuit that will take it across the North East.
