PCN seals 345 patent medicine shops, 3 pharmacies in Ebonyi

Three hundred and forty five (345) patent medicine shops and 3 pharmacies across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State

Three hundred and forty-five patent medicine shops and three pharmacies across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State have been sealed by Phrmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).

This occurred in three days of monitoring carried out by the council.

Registrar of the Council, Pharm. Nurudeen Mohammed, said five premises were issued compliance directives ranging from sale and dispensing of ethical/prescription drugs without the supervision of a pharmacist, unhygienic environment, and poor documentation among others.

Represented by the Director, Inspection and Monitoring, Pharm. (Mrs) Anthonia Aruya, the Registrar said the Council was in Ebonyi to ensure compliance to regulations and guidelines bothering on the pharmaceutical sector.

“The PCN has been in Ebonyi state since November 30, and has visited several local government areas of the State including Ebonyi, Ikwo, Ivo, Ezza, Afikpo, Ezilo among others.

“This is in continuation of its activities aimed at sensitizing the system for better pharmaceutical services delivery to the good people of the state and the nation at large.

“At the end of the exercise, a total of 556 premises were visited comprising 49 pharmacies and 507 patent medicine shops.

He advised the general public to always ask for the registration status of facilities where they access their medicines by requesting for the current annual licences issued by the PCN from any pharmaceutical outlet to safeguard themselves from patronizing quacks.
