Mohammed said 14 Pharmacies and 287 patent shops were sealed for offences which include operating without registration with the PCN, selling ethical medicines without the supervision of a pharmacist, poor documentation, poor storage condition and unauthorized sale of substance of abuse.
The Registrar expressed shock that most of the outlets in Abia State don’t have pharmacists to supervise the dispensing of medicines to the public, which he said encourages the abuse and misuse of controlled medicines with the attendant negative social and security implications.
He said the PCN, before the commencement of the current enforcement exercise, held meetings with all concerned stakeholders at various levels to sensitize them on the need to comply with regulations.
The Registrar expressed disappointment at the attitude of some medicine vendors, especially in Umuahia, who continued without regard to the laws and regulations concerning the sale of medicines.
