Passengers to book, check in online as domestic flights resume in Nigeria

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has encouraged passengers to buy their tickets online and check in online for their flights.

This, the agency said, would reduce the number of passengers at the airport.

General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, stated this on Monday on a radio interview, expressing the readiness of the agency to reopen the airports for domestic flights.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, had announced resumption of flights on Wednesday July 8 beginning with Lagos and Abuja airports.

Speaking in the interview, Mrs. Yakubu stated that passengers should take advantage of the online booking and check-in procedure to reduce the number of people waiting in the airport terminal.

She disclosed that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had mandated airlines to upgrade their online portals to make it seamless and more user-friendly for passengers to book and check in online.

According to her, all the measures and procedures put in place by the authority were in the interest of safety of passengers and airport workers with a view to containing the spread of COVID-19.

She advised passengers to, in their own interest, adhere strictly to the various safety measures in place as flights resume on Wednesday.

Yakubu said: “We have put in place procedures and protocols which we expect passengers to adhere to.

“You can buy your ticket online and also check in online.

“We expect passengers to come to the airport kitted with their face masks.

“We have also put in place water dispenser machines and sanitizers at the airports.

“We have also put in place shields in front of the counters of the airlines.

“So we are appealing to members of the public to adhere to these procedures we have put in place.

“It is for their own safety as well as the safety of airport workers.”
