Party officials shot dead as gunmen invade APC meeting in Enugu

Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu South Local Government Area were gunned down when armed men invaded the party’s office during a meeting on Tuesday.

One of those killed was identified as Mr. Kelvin Ezeoha, the party’s State Assistant Youth leader.

The identity of the other person killed was unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Members of the party from ward III Obeagu Awkunanaw, Enugu South, were reportedly holding a meeting at the party office located in their ward when the gunmen numbering about 7 invaded the venue and shot dead two party members and kidnapped one other person.

A stalwart of the party in the state, who confirmed the incident but didn’t want to be mentioned, said: “Some gunmen invaded the Enugu South LGA APC meeting this evening while their meeting was in progress, opened fire on the party members.

“They killed the immediate past Enugu South Local Government Chairman of the party, now the incumbent Assistant state youth leader, Mr. Kelvin Ezeoha and one other person, while a party member was kidnapped,” the source said.

The party Chieftain further stated that it was uncertain still if the killing was a case of political assassination or the making of suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who have been unleashing terror on innocent citizens of South East in the name of enforcing the a sit-at-home order.

When contacted, the State caretaker Committee chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said he was devastated by the news of the sad incident.

However, he declined further comments.

The State Police Spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, was yet to comment on the incident or issue a release as at the time of this report.
