All the youth clubs that participated in the recently held Dan Majen Gombe Unity Cup competition benefited from the N10m cash prize donated by the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

After months of preliminary and elimination series involving 114 wards across the 11 local government areas of the state, the final match of the competition was played at the Pantami stadium Gombe between Bolari Ward of Gombe LGA and Bare Ward of Billiri LGA with the former winning by penalties after 1-1 in regulation time.

Speaking at the end of the keenly contested finals, Governor Yahaya who described sports as a key factor that engenders unity and cohesion, assured that his administration will continue to support healthy competitions that will bring youths together to promote peace, stability and understanding among the diverse people of the State.  

He also used the occasion to congratulate Doma United for joining the Nigeria Football Professional League (NFPL) this year, noting that Gombe has now become a hub of football with two premier league sides and many teams playing in other national competitions. 

He also commended the Chairman and members of Gombe State Sports Commission and all those who contributed to the success of the tournament. 

The Governor then announced a total donation of N10m with the winners carting away N1.2m, runners- up N1m while the 3rd placed team got N750,000.

Other participating teams from the LGAs were not left out as they got N500,000 each from the sports loving governor with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) members, match officials and others benefitting from the largesse.
