Parents of slain Customs officer begs CGC for replacement

The parents of Katsina Customs officer, Awwal Haruna, killed by an angry mob, suspected to be smugglers, have pleaded with the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to replace the late officer with one of his siblings.

The mother of the deceased, Malama Murjanatu Haruna, made the plea when a high-powered delegation led by the Customs Area Controller, Katsina Area Command, paid a condolence visit to the family on behalf of the CGC.

“It is really sad to have lost him that way, but that was his destiny as Allah had planned it. We have wholly submitted to the will of Allah. Awwal had been of great assistance to us and now that we have lost him in active duty, we are appealing to the Comptroller General, to consider replacing him with either of his brother or sister, all of whom have the required qualifications,” she said.

Malama Murja then prayed to Almighty Allah to protect other colleagues of her son, and all others in active duty so as not to suffer a similar fate.

His father, Malam Haruna Kayawa, thanked the CGC and the delegation for their concern and support since the ugly incident that led to the death of his son.

It could be recalled that late Awwal Haruna was lynched by suspected traders and commercial drivers at Gamjin Makaho on the Kaita-Dankama Road in Katsina State.

Meanwhile, the CGC, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, vowed to arrest and prosecute the killers of the late Auwal Haruna in Katsina State.

Mr Adeniyi stressed that the NCS was doing everything humanly possible to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
