Parents laud FCT minister over teachers’ minimum wage

The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in the FCT, Usman Abubakar, has commended the Minister of the FCT, Muhammad Musa Bello, for approving the payment of the new national minimum wage to primary school teachers in the territory.

Alhaji Abubakar who made the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Gwagwalada, said the approval had doused tension among the teachers.

He noted that the approval would also encourage the teachers to be more dedicated in the discharge of their duties, saying parents would continue to support the teachers’ cause in ensuring pupils got quality education.

The PTA chairman further said, “The PTA also wishes to commend the FCT NUT for their peaceful approach towards seeing that the welfare of teachers, especially the new minimum wage, is realised.”

He, therefore, appealed to the minister to ensure that the payment of the new national minimum wage took off in May, 2021, as promised to avoid the union resuming its strike.
