The Head of Field Operations, Niger Delta Resources Center of ERA/FoEN, Morris Alagoa, told journalists it was the second time incident like that happened at the site.
He said, “There are giant anthills on the Agip pipeline which might also help the people to sabotage the system even in the afternoon to burst the pipeline because it will serve as a cover for the perpetrators”.
“We have SPDC pipeline on the other side and AGIP pipeline this way and both are running on the same line, which means there should be visible so that people passing by will see any intruders whether in the daytime or night. That could also send a signal that something is happening here.”
Residents of the community, Mr Kelvin Irhurhu, and Mr Eboughe Awudu, called on the government and other relevant agencies to stop the leakage before it would result in something disastrous.
Agip spokesperson, who confirmed the incident, said he was working on a statement for the incident.
