The leadership and management of four Katsina state tertiary institutions have been indicted by a visitation panel constituted by the government.
Consequently, the state government has resolved to set up a committee to draft a white paper for consideration.
The institutions are Umaru Musa Yaradua University UMYU, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsinma and Dr Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies, Daura
Presenting the report, chairman of the visitation panel, Professor Danjuma Maiwada said financial regulations were not strictly adhered to, that fees paid by students for particular purposes were not paid into designated separate accounts and quarterly allocation of resources were not being made to governing councils of the institutions.
Specifically about the UMYU, the panel said, “The vice chancellor is averse to consultations, suggestions and recommendations and he bypasses his principal officers in matters of purchases and supplies.”
In his response, Governor Aminu Masari said the decision to constitute the white paper drafting committee was to address the situations and avoid industrial problems, as government would not fold its arms to wrong doings.
