The protest was said to be the outcome of last week’s incident in which men of Ebubeagu allegedly killed some youth in Otulu, in Oru East LGA of the state.

A community source from Umunganike, a neighbouring village to Umuajioma said that the incident which occurred at about 9 am saw the youths in large numbers, protesting against the presence of the Ebubeagu outfit in their locality.

The youth were said to be shouting, “We don’t want Ebubeagu in our community”.

According to an eyewitness, the Divisional police at Ogbuide Road was said to have intervened and calmed the situation.

However the angry youths, it was gathered, became more unruly and started hauling stones at the men.

In that confusion, the Ebubeagu while defending them, shot sporadically in the air and a stray bullet was said to have hit one of the youths who died on the spot.

Both Mberekpe and the State police spokesperson, Mike Abattam were yet to respond to inquiries on the incident.
