Palliatives hunt: 53 people nabbed for NYSC attack – IGP

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has said 53 persons have been arrested so far for vandalising and looting the Federal Capital Territory’s Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during the week.

Speaking on Friday while inspecting the damages at the orientation camp in Kubwa, he said the police must track all the looters who attacked the camp and ensure that all of them get arrested and prosecuted.

He wondered the damage that would have occurred if the corps members were in camp for their orientation programme.

Adamu called on the public to report anyone seen with the NYSC uniform or any item having the NYSC label.

On his part, NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, said that there were no palliative items in the orientation camps across the country.

He said all the scheme was concentrating on at the moment was the resumption of orientation activities slated for 10th November.

Ibrahim appealed to hoodlums not to attack the NYSC orientation camps as the camps were only training grounds for Nigerian youths who were prepared to serve their fatherland.

Speaking to journalist, FCT Coordinator of the NYSC, Hajiya Wallida Isa Saddique, said the mob action was unfortunate as the looters came in and carted away a lot of items.

She urged the youth to get themselves busy rather than engaging in looting and mob actions.

Daily Trust observed that items such as mattress, grinding machines, toilet water closets and industrial cooking pots have been returned so far by some of the hoodlums.
