Palliatives: 500, 000 households targeted for Aisha Buhari’s food donation in Kano

The First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has donated 16 truck load of assorted food items and drugs for distribution to 500, 000 vulnerable households in Kano state.

She also donated sets of Personal Protective Equipment to Kano state government for distribution to frontline health workers combating novel coronavirus in the state.

The items were meant to cushion the effect of current lockdown and to identify with the state in the face of the current pandemic.

Alhaji Hadi Uba, a Special Assistant to the First Lady on administration who presented the protective kits to the state government on behalf of the First Lady said the drugs would be deposited at Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital as well as Future Assured pharmacy for distribution to the needy on prescription.

He said, “the food items including rice, spaghetti, milk, and cooking oil, will be distributed to 500, 000 vulnerable household by the foundation in collaboration with the state government.

“Some of the drugs and preventive materials, will be kept at Aisha Buhari Hospital, while some will be given to hospitals for onward distribution to the public on prescription.

“We donated 300,000 surgical gloves, 300,000 face masks, 300,000 cartons of hand sanitisers, 10 automatic dispensers and protective gowns among other things,” she said.

Kano state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba commended the First Lady for identifying with the state at its time of need, saying the food items would cushion the hardship being experienced by the less privileged due to the lockdown.
He said that the government would ensure proper distribution of the items to those it was meant for.

“We assure you that we are going to be transparent in distributing these items, and we are going to continue to sensitise the people of Kano on the effects of the Coronavirus,” he said.
