Councillors and APC executives in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have allegedly diverted 600 bags of rice supplied to cushion the effect of the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A committee was set up in each of the wards in the LGA which comprised of councillors, party chairmen and ward leaders to handle the distribution of the rice.

It was reliably gathered that the officials diverted the rice and sold it to traders in Keffi Local Government Area.

Some sources said, “We have been hearing that they are sharing rice, but in Kokona we have not seen any rice. Only yesterday we started hearing that the rice meant for Kokona was being sold in Keffi to traders.”

When contacted, Chairman of Kokona Local Government Area Saidu Kuriki said 600 bags of rice were allocated to the area and a committee was set up to ensure equitable distribution.

He expressed shock that the rice was diverted to Keffi and pledged to find out from the committee members about the alleged diversion.

Governor Abdullahi Sule had distributed 600 bags of rice each to the 13 local government areas of the state as palliative to cushion the effect of the lockdown.
