PAKISTAN: India urged to respect human rights in occupied Kashmir

Pakistan has called on the international community to pressure India to end its brutalities and gross human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir.

“This is essential for regional peace and development,” said PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi yesterday on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day.

“After more than seven decades, the people of Jammu & Kashmir continue to be deprived of the fundamental right to self-determination in stark contradiction to the promise made to them by the international community through the United Nations Security Council Resolutions.

“Since July 2016, Indian atrocities have resulted in the killings of hundreds of innocent Kashmiris, injuring over 20,000 and rendered over 200 blinded,” the PM said. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unflinching moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiris in their legitimate struggle for freedom.

Kashmir continues to be one of the longest unresolved conflicts between India and Pakistan as both states claim it in its entirety.
