FG extends verification of directors
By Abbas Jimoh
The Federal Government has extended the verification exercise of directorate level officers in the Federal Public Service to today.
A statement by the spokesman of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mohammed Manga, said the extension was to enable officers who were on official engagements and those had not been verified to participate in the exercise.
The directive is contained in a circular signed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government.
He said the Head of Service had warned that officers who failed under any guise to participate in the verification exercise would be taken off the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) with effect from Monday, July 25, 2016.
“MDAs who have not forwarded the list of their officers on foreign missions and other official engagements outside Nigeria should ensure that they do so on or before Friday, July 15, 2016,” the statement said.
Exam malpractice discredits certificates-WAEC
By Misbahu Bashir
The increase in cases of examination malpractice in schools has lowered the integrity of education authorities and the reliability of school certificates, the Zonal Coordinator, West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Abuja, Mr. Yusufu D. Ari, has said.
Mr. Ari, who was speaking at the 2016 national stakeholders’ dialogue on examination malpractice in Abuja yesterday, said cheating among students during examinations was so rampant that it was threatening to overwhelm and destroy the education sector in Nigeria.
He said poor value system and high level of moral decadence in the society, undue parental pressure and societal expectations, poor study habits as well as psychological distress and fear of failure were some of the causes of cheating which authorities must address.
He said examination malpractice leads to loss of trust and confidence in the education system, discredits examination boards and erodes confidence in certificates.
The chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Abuja chapter, Mohammed Sani, said cheating was discussed during the recent national congress of the union and members would work with WAEC to address it.
