FOSLA Academy reach COPA/COCA-COLA U-15 tourney semis

By David Ngobua

Runners up in this year’s NNPC/SHELL Cup competition for secondary schools in Nigeria, FOSLA Academy Abuja have qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing COPA/COCA COLA U-15 Championship in Lagos.

The academy based in Karshi-Abuja yesterday defeated the Government Model School Suleja Niger State by a lone goal to progress to the semi-finals.

The lone goal was scored in the 2nd minute of the match by the tournament leading goal scorer Chidera Prosper Ojukwu who has so far scored seven goals.

FOSLA Academy had earlier defeated Edo State team 2-0 in their first match on Monday. They will play their last group match today against the Lagos State representatives at the Adelaja Girls Secondary School, Bariga where the matches are being played.

To qualify for the national finals, the FCT representatives emerged tops at the Ilorin zone of the competition where they amassed all nine points that were at stake after beating representatives of Nasarawa State 1-0, Plateau State 7-0 and Bauchi State 4-0.

An official of the academy, Mr. Patrick Ngwaogu said FOSLA boys will not rest on their oars as he said the target is to make up for the loss in this year’s NNPC/ Shell Cup finals.

“The boys are highly motivated. They are not going to get complacent. Our last group match is still very important. We want a hundred percent record.

“And it is interesting that this competition provides us with the opportunity to make up for our loss in the finals of the NNPC/Shell Cup competition.

“We are not going disappoint our teeming fans. Last time we came so close but luck deserted us at the critical moment. This time, it is going to be a different story,” he assured.

FOSLA Academy is owned by former NFF president, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi.
