Group to woo back APC defectors

By Muideen Olaniyi

To vigorously pursue its agenda, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari needs people like the former anti-corruption fighter, Nuhu Ribadu, the president of APC National Coalition for Peace and Mobilisation (NACOPEM), Comrade Ahmed Saleh, has said.

Comrade Saleh, who said this yesterday, in Abuja, at the national executive council meeting of the association, voiced the readiness of the group to reach out to some important members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who left the party in the run-up to the 2015 general elections.

“We need the likes of Nuhu Ribadu and many others to rejoin the party and support this government to fight corruption and help Mr President address the multifaceted problems we have been facing since independence,” he said.

“As a mandate given to us as members of the peace and mobilization committee of the party, we felt what the government needs at this critical point in time to fight corruption is for Mr President to call on credible Nigerians who have the knowhow, intelligence, ability and strategy to fight corruption.

“I mention people like Ribadu because I remember when $15m was brought to him in an attempt to bribe him. How many people can resist such temptation at this present day? Today, former governor James Ibori is in jail, partly due to his efforts. Look at what is going on today, whenever they arrest a particular person due to allegations of corruption, they begin to complain and politicise the issue which, to me, is unnecessary and uncalled for.”

Saleh said that the association would publish the list of achievements of the current administration and make it available to Nigerians.

Kwara APC backs Saraki on forgery trial

From Romoke W. Ahmad, Ilorin

The All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Kwara State says it shares the view of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, that a cabal has taken over the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement issued, yesterday, by its publicity secretary Alhaji Sul?yman Buhari, the Kwara APC said: ?”The statement signed by Mr Femi Adesina on behalf of Mr President is not only un- presidential, it also failed to convincingly dismiss the widely held view of Nigerians that, indeed, there is a government within the government of Mr President.

“It is instructive to note that the Senate president is not the first Nigerian to express such observations. ??The Senate president only called the attention of Mr President to the danger ahead, if the ugly situation is permitted to fester.

?

“In fact, the statement issued by Mr Adesina is the ?clearest indication that a government exists within the government of Mr President. The president that we know, the president that we have worked with, the president that we have worked for, the president that we voted for, would not have directed his media adviser ?to issue such un-presidential statement. That statement is a confirmation of the Senate president’s observation.

“It is the same cabal that embarrassed Mr President by ?padding the 2016 national budget, including the budget of Aso Rock, ?to the extent of inflating some figures in the villa expenditures. ?It is the same cabal that has made it nearly impossible for many ministers and SAs to have access to Mr President. The Presidency should be reminded that a cabal hijacked and destroyed the government of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.”
