Oyo PDP, ADC governorship candidates, others lament over faulty card readers, lack of security

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, his ADC counterpart, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and the Chief of Staff to the state government, Dr.  Gbadegesin Ojo, among others have expressed dissatisfaction over the malfunctioning of card readers and lack of adequate security at their polling units.

Makinde, who voted at Ward 11, Unit 1, Iwo Road, Ibadan North East said the card reader did not detect his fingerprint adding that the electoral officials had to resort to registering his details before he could vote.

He said, “Where I voted, I think the INEC officials are trying their best, but the card reader cannot authenticate my thumbprint. They had to write my name in the voters’ register and allow me to vote.

“The level of security is also low. We have made an observation and I think they are making arrangement to beef up the security.”

Similarly, the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Dr. Gbade Ojo, decried the effective conduct of the elections.

He said, “In Ona-Ara Abemu, no voting is taking place. The card readers are malfunctioning. The truth is that INEC ought to have prepared itself very well.

“Having postponed the elections for a week, my expectation is that they would have enough time to prepare. Four years is enough to do a good job. The security is also inadequate. The security men here are not armed.”

Also, the candidate of the ADC, Olufemi Lanlehin, who called on a radio station to complain his dissatisfaction with the poll conduct, said the card was not working at all in his area.

He urged INEC officials to correct the abnormality in subsequent elections.
