The Oyo State Fire Service said on Friday that it attended to 500 fire incidents, saved property worth N4 billion and rescued 37 lives in the state in 2015.
Mr Oyekunle Kareem, the Director of the Service, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, added that victims of fire disasters in the state also lost over N1billion arising from fire incidents during the period.
He said that the stations of the service always responded promptly to distress calls, in line with the UN specifications which stipulate five to 10 minutes response to such incidents.
Kareem, who said that the service had always educated the people, most especially at the markets, on fire prevention tips.
"I have also discussed the tips on several television and radio programmes, likewise workshops, seminars, conferences and events, but many people are not conscious of them,’’ he said. "Some people don’t also have fire-fighting equipment in their homes, cars, shops, offices and market places.’’
Kareem urged the people to always reach the fire service stations on 08067439223 or 08054353501, in case of a fire outbreak.
