Under the insurance policy, each of the fire fighters is covered to the tune of half a million naira, it was reliably gathered in Ibadan last Monday. One of the nation’s insurance giants – Guinea Insurance Plc – is handling the Group Personal Accident Insurance policy.

The policy, it was learnt, became effective from December 15, 2007 when the State Governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, assented to the insurance cover to safeguard their interest in case of any personnel sustaining injury in the course of operation.

Confirming the development, the Director of the State Fire Service, Mr. Ismail Gbolagade Oladipo, simply told our correspondent that things were no longer the same in the Fire Service following the procurement of the insurance covers for the officers and men.

“We are now happy in our operations.  Things have never been this good in the Oyo State Fire Service,” the director stated.

The director, however, appealed to the State Government to expedite action on the scheduled overseas training programmes for the officers  to update their knowledge on the latest fire fighting techniques.
