Oyebanji criticises BEDC over poor power supply to Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has criticised the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for its inadequate power supply and poor service delivery in the state.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting with BEDC’s Managing Director, Deolu Ijose, and his team, Governor Oyebanji called for the immediate metering of all households to address ongoing issues with estimated billing and erratic power supply.

The governor expressed frustration with BEDC’s failure to enhance electricity supply despite the state government’s investment of over N2.6 billion in infrastructure. He described the current situation as unacceptable and accused the company of hindering progress in power supply improvements.

“I am extremely dissatisfied with BEDC,” Governor Oyebanji stated. “Since 2023, we have invested nearly N2.6 billion in electricity infrastructure, yet much of this infrastructure remains unutilised by BEDC. This lack of progress has left residents without the benefits of our investment, and it appears to be a deliberate attempt by BEDC to frustrate our efforts.”

In response, BEDC’s Managing Director, Deolu Ijose, acknowledged the governor’s concerns and commended the state government for its substantial investment in power infrastructure. Ijose assured the governor of BEDC’s commitment to improving power supply and addressing billing issues. He attributed the challenges to logistical and financial constraints and appealed for patience and cooperation from both the government and residents.
