Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has appointed an eight-man committee on political appointments in the state.
The membership of the committee, which has Chief George Akosile as Chairman include Prof. Modupe Adelabu, Barrister Paul Omotoso, Chief Alaba Bejide, Chief Olajide Awe, Mrs. Ronke Okunsanya, Mr. Bayo Aina and Mr. Leland Ijadale.
The governor said the appointment was in fulfilment of his pre-election promise to the people of Ekiti State to get them involved in the appointment of political office holders in his government to coordinate the process.
The committee has the mandate to consult with relevant stakeholders across the 16 local government areas of the state, screen and recommend names of suitable candidates for political appointments.
Some of the key requirements the committee will consider, aside paper qualifications, include track records, character, competence, compassion, integrity, diligence and contribution to community development, among others.
The committee’s task, however, does not cover appointments into the governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions, as there are laid down procedures guiding such appointments.
A release yesterday by Mr. Tonka Oyebode, Special Adviser, Media, to the governor said the inaugural meeting of the committee had been scheduled for Monday, April 3.
