Owo killing: Senate seeks deployment of helicopters to ungoverned areas

The Senate yesterday urged security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the killers of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo. 

About 40 worshipers were killed and 80 others suffered varying degrees of fatal injuries in the attack that happened on June 5.

The Senate called for the deployment of drones and helicopters to ungoverned areas to identify illegal camps of armed bandits throughout the country.

It asked the security agencies to be discreet in collaborating on intelligence gathering and sharing to prevent future attacks by bandits and insurgents. 

The resolutions followed a motion by Senator Ajayi Boroffice (Ondo North) who warned that such a massacre could be a trigger to inter-religious conflicts and ethnic war in Nigeria.
