Over N100m up for grabs as Lagos marathon holds today
Over N100m is to be given out as prize money to runners who would emerge winners in the men and women categories of the 7th edition of the Access bank Lagos City Marathon to be held today in Lagos.
Trust Sports can report based on the information available on the website for the 42km and 10km race that the first elite winner of the 42km race will smile home with a cash prize of $30,000, the second winner will take home $20,000 while the third place winner will receive $15,000. Other winners in the elite category from the fourth to tenth runner would take home $10,000 down to $2,000.
In the Nigerian category, the first winner will win N1 million, the second winner will take home N750,000 while the third winner will be rewarded with N500,000 just as the fourth to tenth winners would receive prizes varying from N400,000 to N50,000.
The first three winners down to the tenth finisher in the wheelchair category will receive the same prize money as the Nigerian category
As for the 10km fun race, the first winner will also take home N1million, the second winner will get N500,000 while the third winner will be rewarded with N300,000.
According to the organisers, the elite race for the 42km will start by 6am at the National Stadium, Surulere, while the 10km race will start at 9am at the Grace Garden Events Place, Bisola Durosinmi Etti, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The finish line for both races will be at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. There will be virtual race as well for those who would not participate in the physical marathon.
The General Manager of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Yusuf Alli, has said over 30,000 runners will be participating at the Saturday marathon.
