A total of 8,674 teachers whose promotion was approved by Gombe State Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo are yet to get their benefits, five months after they received their promotion letters.
Investigation by Daily Trust revealed that teachers had not been promoted since 2006 and Dankwambo approved their promotions in September 2015, after several complaints. They collected their promotion letters in October 2015, but there was no money to implement the promotion.
The Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB) Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Salama and the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Comrade Usman Dauda Kwadam, separately confirmed the matter.
Salama said the government required N64.8 million monthly to implement the payment and the money was included in the 2016 budget.
Comrade Usman said government has agreed to pay the teachers.
