Over 700 Sokoto orphans to benefit from IIRO grant

A member of the Muslim World League and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has disclosed that another set of 778 orphans will benefit from grants from the International Islamic Relief Organisation (IIRO).

IIRO is an arm of the Muslim World League (MWL) based in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and largely funded by the Saudi Arabian Government.

Addressing newsmen shortly after monitoring the screening of the second phase of the beneficiaries, Sen. Wamakko said 2,000 orphans were captured in a survey conducted 11 years ago by the organisation.

He said, “In all, over 1,180 scaled the screening exercise. Out of the figure, about 300 orphans benefitted from the first phase of the disbursements which were successfully done about three months ago.

“Each of the beneficiaries then was given between N250,000 and N 400,000. The 774 beneficiaries under the second phase will also get similar amounts.”

He added that, “The Saudi Arabian Government, through the mechanisms of MWL and IIRO is routinely assisting in a myriad of fields globally to bolster the growth and development of Islam, as well as humanity.

“They are assisting in various areas like education, water supply, Islamic Da’awah (propagation) and other related endeavours.”

The Coordinator of the IIRO in Sokoto State, Mohamed Bashar Sokoto, explained that the exercise that commenced yesterday, August 9, 2020, was expected to last for five days.

According to him, upon the successful completion of the screening exercise, the actual disbursement will commence on or before the end of September, 2020.

He explained that the exercise was being conducted in strict compliance with the directive of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
