A total of 4,305 farmers in Sokoto are to benefit from the the 2016/2017 Anchor Borrowers Wheat Farming Programme in which Central Bank of Nigeria( CBN) and the State Government have committed over N1.1billion.
Chairman , Framework Committee on Agricultural Development in Sokoto,Alhaji Chiso Abdullahi disclosed this on Thursday while commenting on the programme in Sokoto.
He revealed that CBN contributed about N990million and the state government over N125 million to the programme.
He assured that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure provision of required logistics for the success of the programme.
Abdullahi said each farmer was expected to get a package of N235,000.
He also disclosed that the state government had distributed over 1500 bags of wheat seeds free to the farmers across the state while additional 2,094 bags of wheat seeds were sold to the farmers at subsidized rate.
According to him,the state government bought each 100kg bag of wheat at N35,000 and sold at it to farmers at N18,219.
Abdullahi added that the farmers were given other inputs and fertilizers at highly subsidized rates while they had been fully trained with adequate extension officers provided for them.He said the programme which commenced from November 15,last year would end first week of next month.
