The United States Mission in Nigeria said over 17,000 Nigerians are currently studying in the country.
Shade Adebayo, an education specialist at the EducationUSA disclosed this at a parley with some journalists in Yola, Adamawa State.
She said the United States was heavily investing in education, and that over 50,000 students apply for US scholarships annually.
Adebayo explained that the merit-based scholarships were awarded to brilliant students who lack the opportunities for higher education.

Meanwhile, the press and media specialist at the US Embassy in Abuja, Aishah Gambari, urged journalists to inform the larger society about the numerous opportunities available for Nigerians in the United States, including scholarships, exchanges, and training programmes for career development and progression.
Joseph Adah, the strategic content coordination specialist at the US mission in Nigeria, encouraged journalists to take advantage of social media to connect with a broader audience.
