Jumia Nigeria says over 11,000 entrepreneurs on the Jumia mall benefitted from massive sales the e-commerce firm recorded at the recently concluded Black Friday, adding that Nigeria is a good place to do business.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, the Head of Marketing and Vendor Success for Jumia Marketplace, Chioma Odimegwu, said the Jumia Foods, a subsidiary of Jumia Nigeria, plans to focus on value added services to customers, more partnerships, expansion to more states and signing up of more restaurants in 2019.

She assured the food consumers that with the over 400 restaurants signed up to deliver foods in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, the company will continuously ensure quality control.

While noting that Nigerian cuisines are mostly ordered, she stressed that in 2019, the company plans to increase its delivery time to 12am as well as give a free delivery to customers during the festive season.

She added that Jumia Foods has launched a late-night delivery service to enable customers to order food up until midnight.

“In 2019, we are looking forward to welcoming a new and exciting restaurant/vendor on board within the month. We will also be engaging new partnerships across other industries to provide added value to customers, onboarding more restaurants with longer and later open hours, more focus on corporate catering offerings, encouraging closer relationships with our customers and restaurant vendors,” Odimegwu said.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Jumia Marketplace, Guy Futi said: “We introduced the late-night delivery service to accommodate customers who order food at night.

“The late night delivery combined with initiatives like greater customer accessibility, more payment options, more locations, lunchtime deals, seasonal deals and new related products (Jumia Party) has led to over 120% increase in the volume of orders.

“We have made it possible for orders to be picked up by the rider closest to a restaurant’s location.

“With this, we can deliver orders to the customer’s doorstep within 40 minutes and interestingly, the delivery process can be tracked right from the time when the customer places the order to the moment the order is delivered,” Guy added.
