Over 11,000 athletes set for Asaba 2022 NSF

Athletes from different parts of the country are set to storm Asaba, the Delta State capital, beginning today for Wednesday’s opening ceremony of the 21st National Sports Festival (NSF).

A total of 11, 000 athletes, 2000 more than the number recorded at the last edition in Benin City Edo State, will feature in this year’s edition of the biennial sports festival.

Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chris Anazia, said “We are set to receive athletes from the various states on Monday, November 28 and Tuesday. “

“The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday. I am sure the athletes, coaches and sports administrators will enjoy their stay in Delta. I wish everyone a safe journey to Asaba.

Anazia who is also the Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission assured that the state will host the best sports festival ever.

“Whenever Delta agrees to do anything, we always go for the best. We are not just going to host a sports festival, but the best ever in the history of the Games,” he assured.

It will be recalled that at the end of the 20th edition in Benin City, Delta State won the bid to host the fiesta, which is Nigeria’s version of the Olympics Games.

Since then, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has put several structures in place to actualise his dream of delivering the best-ever Games in the history of Nigerian sports.

Among the facilities built for Delta 2022 Games are two brand new indoor sports halls, a new swimming pool, a new tartan track, new shooting range all within the Stephen Keshi stadium as well as a new hockey pitch at Okpanam.
