The performance of Nigerian artiste, Oludipe David, better known as Spyro, at the Harvesters International Gospel Center’s Christmas carol session in Lagos State on Sunday had elicited mixed reactions.

The church invited celebrities to the event, including Daniel Effiong, Bisola Ayeola, Dorathy Bachor, Sharon Ooja, Uzor Arukwe, Adeh Gbolahan, and Kenneth Ophopho, according to the event flyer

Many people have voiced their criticism of the choice to showcase a secular musician at a religious gathering.

Comments have surfaced on social media, where Nigerians asked questions about whether it was proper to invite the artistes to play in a place of worship.

It sparked arguments among people with differing opinions on Pastor Bolaji Idowu’s decision as the lead preacher at Harvesters International Christian Centre to accommodate the artists in the event.

In response to the news, a social media user by the handle @Marki tweeted, “It’s easy to spot fake pastors using Jesus name for their own selfish gains and bodily satisfaction.”

@Wal^ker tweeted, “This is the reason I don’t go to church.. how can churches be inviting worldly music into churches?”

“Funny how we’ve left holy vessels in the hands of unworthy people,” tweeted @Shilehorlar1.

“I am not judging anyone, but if this menace is not addressed they will soon start to invite stripp*rs to church and find a justification 2 it. It takes a saved to save a drowning person” .

Another Twitter user, @Obiasogu David, expressed his thoughts by tweeting, “It’s lovely how Nigerian churches are coming up with innovative ways to “win souls.”

“Portable was invited by Celestial Church to “minister” to its people the other day. It’s Spyro now.

A tweep going by the handle @Enioluwa V.A had a different viewpoint… he tweeted, “The most odorous opinions come from those who have never heard or listened to Pastor B teach.

“Spyro is a worker in the church, Skales participated in the last Bible Foundation course, what makes them less human to perform in the carol? Y’all have knotted bolts in your head.”

This comes in the wake of the recent controversy that trailed the invitation of popular Fuji singer Pasuma and controversial Nigerian singer Portable, to perform at a Celestial Church in Lagos State.

Recall that Pastor Idowu recently made the headlines after he was featured alongside BBNaija star, Dorathy, in a skit by popular Nigerian skit maker, Mr. Macaroni.
