In a press statement made available to Trustsports by the Media Officer of the football federation, Mr. Ademola Olajire, NFF president Sani Lulu Abdullahi minced no words, saying that media reports of a ‘clash’, ‘conflict’, ‘disagreement’, ‘daring’ and such like were spectacularly over the bar.

“I am disturbed by these negative reports, which are false in their entirety. The President set up a Committee to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Football Federation in realizing a 2010 World Cup ticket, and people are insinuating all manner of things. It is unfortunate.

“Have those persons forgotten that I am also a Member of the Task Force? When we were in London for the friendly match against Republic of Ireland, I introduced the Members of the Task Force, headed by the amiable Governor Rotimi Amaechi, to the players and Members of the technical crew of the Super Eagles. We are on the same page as far as this project is concerned.

“2010 World Cup qualification is a national project that much Mr. President himself said during the inauguration. The nation is bigger than any individual. I have never said or done anything that would take the Presidential Task Force for granted. They are eminent Nigerians who have much to contribute to the cause of the nation’s football.

“Even the players know by now that Mr. President, His Excellency Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua is always the 12th player on the field for them. At the last match against Kenya, the Vice President was physically present and supported the team beautifully and enthusiastically. We had several State Governors, Senators and Honourable Members. Why shouldn’t we be happy? The Super Eagles belong to all Nigerians.
