Halima Usman, founder of ‘Gombe Day of Literature’ said the program’s priority is to discover and nurture talent. She added that young talents were also given scholarships to encourage them.
Halima said the annual event, which held recently, is a platform to engage the youths in different activities.

“We engage them in various skills acquisition like soap making and give them all the necessary support,” she said, adding that those who draw are provided with sketch pads and other materials.
Other categories involve primary school pupils where uniforms, bags, and books, are provided. ”Our target is to educate a minimal number of youth because our people in the north are very intelligent and hardworking but what they lack is education,” she said.
