Otti hosts NPFL champions, Enyimba today

Reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Enyimba International Football Club will be hosted today by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, in Umuahia.

At the grand reception which starts this evening at the Governor’s lodge, players, officials, and supporters of the victorious team are expected to be rewarded for winning the 2023 NPFL title.

Following the dissolution of the boards of Enyimba and Abia Warriors by the immediate past administration, the ‘Peoples Elephants’ were on the verge of missing the NPFL Super 6 but the quick intervention of the present administration saw them winning their ninth league title.

The other clubs to represent Nigeria in CAF’s Inter-Club Championships next season are Remo Stars of Ikenne (Champions League), while Rivers United and newly crowned Federation Cup kings, Bendel Insurance of Benin are to compete in the Confederation Cup.

Six clubs, Enyimba, Remo Stars, Rivers United, Bendel Insurance, Sunshine Stars, and Lobi Stars featured in the Championship Play which ended on July 11 in Lagos.

As two-time winners of the CAF Champions League, Enyimba is undoubtedly the most successful club in the history of Nigerian football.

They won the Champions League trophy back-to-back in 2003 and 2004.
