The results of the Osun West Senatorial bye-election emanating from unit level indicated that the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Otunba Ademola Adeleke is in early lead.

At Unit 2, Ward 9 in Ede North Local Government which is the polling booth of the PDP candidate, Otunba Ademola Adeleke, he scored 155 votes while the APC candidate, Mudasiru Hussain scored six votes.

At Unit 1, Ward 3 in Ejigbo local government where the APC candidate, Mr Mudashir Hussain voted, APC got 152 votes While PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke got 148 votes, a difference of 4 votes.

According to the result of the election at Olorunsogo unit 2, Ward 10, under Egbedore Local government, the PDP candidate got 224 votes while APC got 107 and SDP got one vote.

In Unit 1, WARD 1 (Awo/ Abodu) under Egbedore Local Government, PDP candidate got 569 while APC candidate got 195.

The voters trooped out in large number to elect the new senator that would replace late Senator Isiaka Adeleke. The officials of the independent National Electoral Commission arrived at voting centres on time with voting materials.

The early morning drizzling did not deter as the voting commenced few minutes after 8 am and it was peaceful at the time of filing these reports.

Adeleke voted at Unit 9, Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde compound in Ede North at 8:30 am and he commended the process. “As you can see, it rained this morning before the voting exercise commenced. This is a signal to the fact that I will carry the day. With this large turnout, it is unarguable that I will beat Hussein hands down by God’s grace.”

The election was peaceful in Ejigbo Local Government where the candidate of All Progressive Congress, Senator Mudasiru Hussain voted at unit 1, Ward 3.

Hussain commended the the process and expressed optimism that he would win the election. He also commended the voters for the maturity and lauded the security.

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salaam voted unit 6, Ward 4, at 10:55 am. 

Salaam told journalists that the election was peaceful, free and fair and commended INEC and security agencies for the smooth exercise.

The former Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adejare Bello, who voted at ward 3, Unit 4, Olagunju Agba Akin at about 9:25 said the process of accreditation and voting simultaneously was commendable.
